Is social media making us unsocial? Maybe.
For the most part, yes. Social media is developing new social problems in people. Where does a lot of this madness come from?
Before I start, I know there are other social networks out there causing stupid social media trends, but Facebook is the biggest player here so I shall use it as the target.
Facebook users are very known for thinking you saw every single thing you post on Facebook because of the fact that people normally do see everything there. For example, I have deactivated my Facebook accounts more than once due to the annoyingness of Facebook (but end up coming back because I lose communication with people.) In that period of social seclusion, I rarely hear about anything. People did not contact me telling me about activities and problems or anything. I was left in the dark. Not only did it make me question whether or not people care to actually inform me about their stupid business, but it’s like they want to be exclusive with sharing their personal bullshit with an audience that truly doesn’t care.
The Facebook community is interesting, and the “Facebook mentality” has spread to other social networks. Facebook brought forth a new era of social networking. People thinking they need to be “connected” with their friends at all times. People thinking if you do not add them on Facebook, you do not care for them. Thinking that Facebook is a private diary, when in reality it is a public forum.
So now we focus on what isn’t real. A social network. It is supposed to bring people closer (which it does…on the internet) but in reality, it has disconnected us. We don’t talk anymore, we always just link back to some stupid OP.
